Church Digital

GoDaddy church websites: what our data shows

GoDaddy’s website builder gets churches online fast and cheap, and there’s real value in that. But we owe you the data: of the 67 GoDaddy Websites + Marketing church sites in our 2026 study of 2,000 small-church websites, 61.2% showed an update within the last year and 61.2% had a working giving path — the weakest numbers of any platform cohort we measured.

That isn’t mockery, and it isn’t really an indictment of the software. Read honestly, it’s a pattern: GoDaddy is where churches go to get a site up quickly — often without deciding who will keep it alive. This page walks through what GoDaddy does well, what the data shows, and what a done-for-you setup changes.

From our 2,000-church study

What we found in the wild

Of the 67 GoDaddy Websites + Marketing church sites in our 2026 study:

showed an update within the last year
61.2%
had a working online giving path
61.2%
made service times findable
86.6%

For context, across all 1,930 reachable sites in the study: 74% showed an update within the year and 67.3% had working giving. This is correlation, not causation — a platform doesn’t make a church diligent, but diligent churches cluster on certain platforms. Read this as a pattern of ownership, not an indictment of the software — a site that launches without an owner goes stale on any platform. See the full study →

What GoDaddy does well — for real

The cheapest respectable way online

There’s a free tier, and paid Websites + Marketing tiers are advertised from about $9.99 to $29.99/month on annual billing (introductory pricing, checked 2026-07-16). For a church that needs an address, service times, and a phone number on the internet this month, that’s honest value.

Everything in one account

Many churches already have their domain and email at GoDaddy. Adding the website keeps one vendor, one login, and one bill — a real convenience for a volunteer treasurer.

Fast to launch

The builder’s templates and guided setup produce a clean, mobile-friendly brochure site in an afternoon. For getting from nothing to something, it’s one of the quickest paths there is.

Where churches struggle with GoDaddy

The set-and-forget pattern

38.8% of the GoDaddy church sites in our study showed no update within the last year — the highest stale share of any platform cohort. The pattern reads as launch-and-leave: the site goes up for the right reasons, then nobody owns Tuesday-after-Tuesday upkeep.

Giving is left as an exercise

61.2% of GoDaddy church sites had a working giving path — meaning nearly four in ten had none a visitor could complete. GoDaddy doesn’t ship church giving; wiring it up is one more job for whoever set up the site.

The advertised price is introductory

The $9.99-ish/month sticker is first-term pricing on annual billing; renewals run higher (a caveat third-party pricing roundups consistently flag — GoDaddy’s own pricing pages block automated fetchers, so confirm your renewal rate directly). Budget on the renewal, not the promo.

Common questions

Is GoDaddy bad for church websites?
No — the builder makes a clean starter site, and for a simple brochure it’s honest value. What our 2026 study found is a pattern around it: the 67 GoDaddy church sites in our sample had the lowest freshness (61.2% updated within the year) and lowest working-giving (61.2%) rates of any platform cohort. That looks like set-it-and-forget-it, not bad software.
What does GoDaddy actually cost?
There’s a free tier, and paid Websites + Marketing tiers are advertised from about $9.99 to $29.99/month on annual billing as of 2026-07-16 — but that’s introductory pricing, and renewals run higher. GoDaddy’s pricing pages block automated fetchers, so those figures come from current third-party roundups; confirm your real renewal rate with GoDaddy before budgeting.
Why were the GoDaddy numbers in your study so low?
Our honest read: GoDaddy attracts churches getting online quickly, often without assigning anyone to keep the site alive — and an unowned site goes stale on any platform. One honest caveat from our own study writeup: this is correlation, not causation — the platform doesn’t make a church diligent, but diligent churches cluster on certain platforms.
We built our GoDaddy site years ago. What should we do first?
Grade it. Our free website grader checks the same eight things our national study measured — working giving, signs of life this year, findable service times, mobile, and more — instantly, no email required. If it scores well, keep it and check in yearly. If it doesn’t, you’ll know exactly what to fix, with or without us.
What does switching to Church Digital change?
Ownership of the job. We design and build a custom site, host it, and handle routine updates — you email us changes. $120/month flat, $0 setup, no contract, cancel anytime from your account. Your domain can stay registered at GoDaddy; we just point it at the new site.

Not sure yet? Grade your current site first.
